France
Policy approach in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The
French Embassy deals both with cooperation assistance (support of police,
justice, administration, NGOs; exchanges between regions and cities in France and Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH) and
traditional cultural institutions and activities (universities, French language
teaching, cinema, theatre, dance, visual arts, and literature). The goals of
the latter are to promote the French language and cultural diversity. The
Embassy also gives support to civil society, focusing especially on empowering
youth and women, by financing education initiatives and creating spaces where
youth and women can meet and raise their voices.
From
a political standpoint, the French Embassy in BiH aims to strengthen the
central state. The Embassy does this by promoting the rule of law, supporting
institution building and providing education to civil servants, judges, and
police officers. France’s
priority sectors in BiH are: Justice, Education, Culture, Youth, Health, and
decentralized cooperation.
Allocation and activities in 2007
France’s total direct allocation was € 369.000, with a further contribution
to multilateral agencies of €900.000.
